Yazmin White Mitchell
Teacher Team Leader
Yazmin’s journey in the education field has taken her from the classrooms of kindergarten students through high school seniors as a teacher, special programs leader, and assistant principal. One thing has remained constant during journey: her commitment to serving each student that crosses her path.
Yazmin has been involved with Stand’s Connection Conversations since its launch – a program which builds relationships between families and schools through home visits. As a case manager, she appreciates that more school counselors and case managers are taking leadership positions in the program. She has seen the impact these home visits make on students and families and looks forward to continuing to grow that impact in the future.
Yazmin is a case manager and Learning Behavior Specialist 1 teacher at a neighborhood school in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood, a position she has held for five years. She advocates strongly for diverse learners and loves to collaborate with her colleagues to promote student academic progress and emotional development.
She earned her undergrad degree in special education from Chicago State University and has a masters’ degree in educational administration. Yazmin is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in organizational leadership.
