Embracing Kindness in Illinois
Illinois educators are embracing Teach Kindness.
- Teach Kindness helped Palmer Elementary meet the social and emotional needs of students as they returned to in-person instruction. Principal Dixon knew that students and staff were hungry for connection after COVID-related disruptions and utilized Teach Kindness to meet those needs.
- A Gratitude Jar created by pre-K teacher Ms. Cade at Carver Elementary helped grow a culture of kindness and positive reflection at the school. This practice helped students develop and maintain positive mindsets amid challenging circumstances.
- Ms. McKinney, a parent resource teacher at Fiske Elementary School, noted that Teach Kindness allows educators to easily fold important lessons into the school day, saying of the fully outlined program, “All you have to do is teach it.”
- School leaders at Wagoner Elementary included Teach Kindness lessons in staff development sessions to help educators create a sense of community where everyone feels safe and loved. A student at the 2020 National Teach Kindness Champion School said entering Wagoner feels like “coming to a grand opening.”
