Leadership is measured in results.
This year, we’re grading Arizona legislators on how they show up for families in three key areas:
Public education
In the public education category, we are looking to see how legislators support the majority of Arizona students who attend public schools.
- Do they support continued investments in 9th Grade On-Track programs which increase graduation rates and help make students more prepared for college?
- Do they support legislation to make it easier for schools to implement “bell-to-bell” cell phone away policies?
- Do they support academic acceleration to allow students to take high school math in middle school?
Early childhood
In the early childhood category, we are tracking how lawmakers support working families at the legislature.
- Do they support establishing a child tax credit to help Arizonans start and grow their families?
- Do they support additional funding for childcare subsidies to shrink or eliminate the childcare waitlist and help boost the Arizona economy?
- Do they support measures to increase funding for Arizona First Things First like closing the “tobacco tax” loophole?
Criminal Justice Reform
In the criminal justice category, we are looking to see how legislators build a stronger and more fair criminal justice system.
- Do they support eliminating fees for jury trials, public defenders, and appeals?
- Do they support ending juvenile life without parole sentencing?
By supporting public education, early childhood investments, and a stronger criminal justice system, legislators can earn an A+ from Stand for Children Arizona.
