Join the Movement for Cell Phone-free schools

Better focus. Real friendships. Academic success. It starts with phone-free schools.

We all want what’s best for our children. We want them to succeed academically, develop healthy relationships, and build the skills they need for a bright future.

The research is clear: phone-free schools give students an extra hour of learning daily, reduce bullying, and create space for authentic peer connections.

Phones are designed to distract—kids deserve classrooms designed for learning.

Schools across the country are adopting “bell-to-bell” phone-free policies with remarkable results: students report less anxiety, teachers see improved engagement, and academic performance improves.

While schools are currently deciding on cell phone policies for our students, it’s important that every member of the school community have a voice in shaping a policy that works for all of us.

The Educator Guide is full of useful resources includes research findings, information about implementation steps, cost estimates, effectiveness ratings, and staffing requirements.

A phone-free school has a “first bell to last bell” policy that requires all personal electronic devices (cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, AirPods, fitness trackers, and Bluetooth connected headphones, etc.) are turned off, securely locked away, and inaccessible for the entire school day.

Each school community is different and finalized policy will need to include systems for how families can communicate with students for daily needs (forgotten lunches, pickup changes) as well as for school wide emergencies such as an emergency text message system.
