English Oregon Staff
Sarah Pope worked with Stand OR from 2005 to 2012 as an organizer and Organizing Director and served as Interim ED toward the end of her tenure. She left to become the Chief of Staff for the Oregon Department of Education and served for the past four years as Deputy Superintendent of the NW Regional Education Service District, Oregon’s largest Education Service District. While serving in that role, Sarah received her MA in Education Leadership from the University of Oregon and earned her administrative license. Among her many achievements, Sarah led the NWRESD’s development of a Ninth Grade Success program that serves nearly twenty school districts, she was a catalyst for the Governor of Oregon’s decision to require teachers to receive COVID vaccinations and then led the roll out for the metro area. This work was instrumental in Oregon students receiving in-person instruction during the latter half of the 2020-2021 school year. Sarah also led the development of a broad coalition effort to refer a measure to the November 2022 ballot in Washington County (which is adjacent to Portland/Multnomah County) to provide quality pre-K for the 16,000 Washington County three and four-year-olds who currently lack access.
Sarah has two children, a preschooler and a first grader, and we are thrilled to welcome Sarah back to Stand!
