June is the month where we see many transitions: spring turns into summer, students graduate high school. June also brings celebrations: celebrating Pride and unapologetically uplifting the Queer community, celebrating Juneteenth and rejoicing in what freedom means to the Black community. I hope we can continue to celebrate joyous occasions inside and outside our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-june-highlights\"><strong>june highlights<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Union High School Freshman Success Event \u2013 Vancouver, WA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Union High School hosted a celebration for their Ninth Grade Success Teams work in June. A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wssda.org\/leadership-development\/board-development\/becoming-a-school-director\/?emci=44b0b150-9a10-ee11-907c-00224832eb73&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}#:~:text=As%20a%20board%2C%20their%20primary,Review%2C%20revise%20and%20adopt%20policies\">school board<\/a>&nbsp;oversees a variety of&nbsp; academic, legal, and financial issues for the school district. They play a huge role in creating safe and equitable learning environments for students. Let us know if there\u2019s an important race in your area!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Collaboration Across WA<br><\/strong>Last month, the Washington Center for High School Success (CHSS) gathered Ninth Grade Success&nbsp; teams&nbsp; from Vancouver to Bellingham to Moses Lake for in-person collaboratives to network, learn, and plan. They shared what\u2019s currently working to support 9th graders, as well as raising challenges to draw on the collective expertise of the network. Participating schools have been working hard all year, and some are celebrating double digit increases in the rate of students passing all their 9th grade classes.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/highschoolsuccess.org\/?emci=44b0b150-9a10-ee11-907c-00224832eb73&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\">Learn more about CHSS.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reflections on a Session Full of Lessons<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong>Our experience of the 2023 Legislative Session could be quantified in many ways, but&nbsp;<strong>you can\u2019t quantify the dedication and passion<\/strong>&nbsp;put forth by our entire community these past few months. We set out with ambitious legislative goals because students deserve transformative change.
