Committees also started voting on bills (called \u201ctaking executive action\u201d). There are only 12 days left for bills to receive a committee vote in order to advance in the legislative process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-great-news\">Great news!\u00a0<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5974&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2023&amp;emci=daff2879-55b6-ee11-bea1-0022482237da&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 5974<\/a>, which would create an automatic process to remove uncollectible juvenile court debt, advanced out of committee! After a strong hearing in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tvw.org\/video\/senate-human-services-2024011255\/?eventID=2024011255&amp;startStreamAt=3065&amp;emci=daff2879-55b6-ee11-bea1-0022482237da&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\">Senate<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvw.org\/watch\/?clientID=9375922947&amp;eventID=2024011308&amp;startStreamAt=4081&amp;emci=daff2879-55b6-ee11-bea1-0022482237da&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\">House<\/a>, this important legislation advanced out of Senate Human Services on Thursday. It goes next to the Rules Committee; it must be pulled from rules to the floor for a vote by February 13.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few other bills also moved forward out of committee:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=6021&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2023&amp;emci=daff2879-55b6-ee11-bea1-0022482237da&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 6021<\/a>&nbsp;which would eliminate the cost of prison phone calls to better connect families with incarcerated loved ones; and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=5981&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2023&amp;emci=daff2879-55b6-ee11-bea1-0022482237da&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 5981<\/a>&nbsp;which was written by currently incarcerated students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ninth-grade-success-spotlight\">Ninth Grade Success Spotlight\u00a0<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Rep Stonier\u2019s bill\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/billsummary?BillNumber=2053&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2023&amp;emci=daff2879-55b6-ee11-bea1-0022482237da&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 2053<\/a>\u00a0had a fantastic hearing in the House Appropriations Committee, featuring\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvw.org\/watch\/?clientID=9375922947&amp;eventID=2024011286&amp;startStreamAt=1222&amp;stopStreamAt=1542&amp;emci=daff2879-55b6-ee11-bea1-0022482237da&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">student<\/a>\u00a0and administrator voices from around the state.\u00a0The Daily Herald also highlighted the impact of Ninth Grade Success funding in Snohomish County in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldnet.com\/news\/funding-at-risk-for-program-that-keeps-everett-ninth-graders-on-track\/?emci=daff2879-55b6-ee11-bea1-0022482237da&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid={{ContactsEmailID}}\">recent article<\/a>.
