You\u2019re not alone, especially if you\u2019re feeling like the lists of instructions and necessary documents are too intimidating and time-consuming. Even your financial aid may be adjusted if your circumstances have changed. Washington Student Achievement Council has resources for students applying for financial aid amidst this public health crisis,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wsac.wa.gov\/covid-19#Colleges%20and%20Universities\">available here.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Financial aid isn\u2019t just for those seeking a four-year degree. Washington state has money set aside every year to help eligible students pay for college and career training, but thousands of students miss out on the opportunity because they don\u2019t apply. Thanks to new legislation passed in 2019,&nbsp;<strong>more families are now eligible for aid<\/strong>, and more programs and types of credentials are included. And the Washington College Grant guarantees funding for eligible students, no matter when they apply.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wsac.wa.gov\/apply\">You can start your application today!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Applying for financial aid is the first step every student should take when planning for education after high school.&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some resources to get you started:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-x-large-font-size has-custom-font wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-gather-what-you-need-to-start-your-financial-aid-application-today\" style=\"font-family:Montserrat\">Gather what you need to start your Financial Aid application today.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s never too late to apply, it\u2019s free, and most people finish in about half an hour. You and your student can start the application now, save it, and come back to it later.&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wsac.wa.gov\/apply\">Apply for Financial Aid today.<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;To finish, your student will need some information about their finances and yours, if you are their parent.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/who-is-my-parent.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Click here to learn about whose information your student will need<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\/filling-out#gathering-the-documents-needed-to-apply\">list of documents and information<\/a>&nbsp;you can look at with your student for what they need to gather, but it\u2019s okay if you don\u2019t have all of this right now, or if you\u2019re not sure how to get it. These students still need to meet other program requirements. To find out if you qualify, you and your student can complete the free WASFA to apply for state financial aid. If your student is a U.S. citizen or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.ed.gov\/sa\/eligibility\/non-us-citizens\">eligible non-citizen<\/a>, they can complete the federal free FAFSA form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wsac.wa.gov\/apply\">START YOUR APPLICATION TODAY<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-x-large-font-size has-custom-font wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-it-s-okay-to-have-a-lot-of-questions-about-financial-aid\" style=\"font-family:Montserrat\">It\u2019s okay to have a lot of questions about Financial Aid.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re not alone &#8211; and there are people available who are trained to help you through it. Beginning this year, more families are eligible, and more programs and types of credentials are included. And the Washington College Grant guarantees funding for eligible students, no matter when they apply.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no separate application for the Washington College Grant.Your family\u2019s eligibility is determined by the financial tax information submitted on the FAFSA or WASFA.&nbsp; By filling out your Financial Aid application, you will automatically be considered. Also, no matter when you apply for financial aid, it&#8217;s never too late for the Washington College Grant. This grant funding will not go away. You and your student must fill out&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/readysetgrad.wa.gov\/college\/college-bound-scholarship-program\">this separate application<\/a>&nbsp;when they are in 7th or 8th grade if they meet one of the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>During 7th or 8th grade, family household income from all sources is less than or equal to the amounts on the chart below.<\/li><li>The student is currently in foster care or a dependent of the state<\/li><li>Your family receives SNAP\/Basic Food Assistance or TANF benefits<\/li><li>COVID-19 UPDATE: A&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/readysetgrad.wa.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/college.bound.deadline.memo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">special exception<\/a>&nbsp;to the College Bound Scholarship deadlines will be made for students required to sign a pledge to establish eligibility during eighth or ninth grade in the 2019-20 school year. Regardless, many school-based and school-funded scholarships require students to submit a FAFSA or WASFA form for consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/washboard.wsac.wa.gov\/login.aspx\">Create a profile at theWashBoard.org to find scholarships you can apply for.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-x-large-font-size has-custom-font wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-financial-aid-is-for-you\" style=\"font-family:Montserrat\">Financial Aid&nbsp;is&nbsp;for you.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter how much your family income is or what your grades are, you should still apply for financial aid.
