Shelby grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and developed a passion for educational policy while pursing a microbiology degree at the University of Arizona. While serving as a program educator for Tucson Water, she gained invaluable insights into the impact of policy on Arizona’s educational landscape, particularly for English language learners. This was the starting point for her passion in enact systemic change.

While working towards a Master’s in Educational Policy, Shelby worked with Equality Arizona to influence LGBTQ+ policy at the legislature in 2023. Additionally, she dedicated her time to empowering young black leaders through her involvement with the Arizona Coalition for Change, where she facilitated the Young Black Organizer Project, a fellowship to encourage civic engagement in young leaders.

Shelby’s multifaceted experience also extends to campaign and election work, where she was a campaign manager for various school board and county attorney elections. Her work also focused on increasing Black voter turnout and advocating equitable representation in Arizona’s democracy. As a life-long learner, she graduated from Monzon and Adelante fellowship, diving deeper into Arizona’s biggest issues.

Excited to embark on a new chapter, Shelby is thrilled to join the STAND Arizona team as an organizer, where she will continue her mission of effecting positive change. Outside of her professional pursuits, she enjoys quality time with her fiancé, indulging in shows like Abbott Elementary, and cherishing moments with her beloved cat, Ollie.
