Elect Education Champions

Electing Bold Leaders

Stand for Children is a unique catalyst for education equity and racial justice, to create a brighter future for us all. In Louisiana, too many kids don’t make it to graduation with the skills they need to be successful in life. That is why Stand Louisiana’s members are committed to electing leaders who are deeply committed to improving educational opportunities for children and who make decisions in the best interests of the children they are elected to serve.

Stand Louisiana uses a robust and transparent endorsement process in to identify and support those candidates who best stand for the values and ideals espoused by Stand Louisiana.

The Process

All candidates running for critical school board and/or legislative seats are invited to complete a written questionnaire about their priorities, beliefs, and vision.

Candidates who submit a completed questionnaire are invited to participate in an interview with Stand Louisiana parent, student, community, and faith leader members. Prior to the interview, endorsement committee members review each candidate’s responses to the written questionnaire, biography, resume, and relevant voting records when applicable.

In the interview, endorsement committee members dive into candidate’s beliefs and truly assess their positions. Endorsement committees then independently discuss their options and may choose to endorse none, one, or more candidates in any given race.

Candidate Criteria

  1. Issue Alignment: Candidates show a commitment to raising achievement for all students, increasing family and community involvement, improving school funding, and ensuring our schools have effective principals and teachers. If the candidate is an incumbent, they have a strong track record on improving education.
  2. Strong Core Values: Candidates have a vision for their community and and make clear commitments to improving education or, if an incumbent, have a record of bold, innovative leadership on student-centered policies. Candidates are bold leaders, strive for consensus when possible, and hold strong to their values.
  3. Viability: Candidates have a clear and viable strategy for winning their race.
