{"id":2296,"date":"2025-08-28T12:55:21","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T12:55:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stand.org\/indiana\/?p=2296"},"modified":"2025-09-09T21:00:19","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T21:00:19","slug":"the-school-type-debate-has-gone-on-too-long","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stand.org\/indiana\/our-stories\/the-school-type-debate-has-gone-on-too-long\/","title":{"rendered":"The school type debate has gone on too long"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The school type debate in Indianapolis has gone on for far too long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you know what it really does?<br>It distracts us.<br>It pulls our attention away from what truly matters:&nbsp;<em>our kids<\/em>\u2014and whether their schools are helping them learn, grow, and thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It divides us at a time when we desperately need to come together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s already enough division in the world. We don\u2019t need more of it in our schools. I don\u2019t know about you, but I\u2019m ready to bridge the divide and focus on what really matters:&nbsp;<strong>student-centered solutions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because it\u2019s not about whether a child attends a traditional IPS school, a charter school, or an innovation school. It\u2019s about whether they\u2019re getting the education they deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The politics aren\u2019t helping. The finger-pointing isn\u2019t helping.<br>But hope, unity, and action? That can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In that spirit of hope and action, I joined up with other neighbors, parents and students\u2014people from all walks of life and all types of school experiences\u2014because it was time. <a href=\"https:\/\/stand.org\/indiana\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/08\/TogetherWeThrive-Vision.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Time to create a student-centered vision.<\/a> Time to end the division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, we spent months talking about the newly formed Indianapolis Local Education Alliance (ILEA) and the real hope it could bring to our city\u2019s children. We created a shared vision for a stronger, more unified public education system\u2014one that puts students first, no matter where they go to school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stand.org\/indiana\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/08\/TogetherWeThrive-Vision.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read this if you care about kids in Indianapolis<\/a>\u2014regardless of the type of public school they attend.<\/strong> <strong>Read it if you believe we can build something better\u2014together. <\/strong>Not just because we\u00a0<em>can<\/em>\u00a0do better\u2014but because we\u00a0<em>must<\/em>. <strong>For our kids.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you believe that too,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/Thrivingindyschools.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>add your name to this petition<\/strong>. <\/a>Adding your name takes only a minute.
