But too often, families are unable to attend those schools simply because they can\u2019t get there.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>\ud83d\ude8c Transportation: A Barrier to Real Choice<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many charter schools in Indianapolis don\u2019t offer transportation, leaving families\u2014especially those without reliable access to a car\u2014without a real choice. This is especially troubling when some of the city\u2019s highest-performing schools are charters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we truly believe in school choice, we must ensure that every family has the means to access it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\ud83d\udde3<strong>\ufe0f Advocates Are Speaking Up<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stand Indiana advocates have taken this message to both the IPS Board of Commissioners and the Indiana General Assembly:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83c\udfa5 <a href=\"https:\/\/stand.org\/indiana\/our-stories\/advocates-support-transportation-solutions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">On March 26, several advocates traveled to the Statehouse to support transportation solutions for charter families.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xGn-hiXnbhI?feature=shared\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vilma Hernandez spoke at the IPS board meeting in February 2025, urging leaders to prioritize equitable access.<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R0_GwdNYCl8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sashah Fletcher testified at the March 2025 IPS Action Session, sharing her personal story about the challenges of getting her child to a high-quality school.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are just some of the voices calling for a system that works for all families\u2014not just those with the means to drive across town.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>\ud83d\udcb0 Funding should no longer be a barrier<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historically, one of the biggest barriers to charter transportation has been funding. But that\u2019s changing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to recent legislation, charter schools will begin receiving an equal share of local property tax dollars starting in 2028.
