Created through House Bill 1515, the ILEA represents a new opportunity to envision a public education system that puts student outcomes first, no matter the type of school. For families, this isn\u2019t just about policy\u2014it\u2019s about real change in the areas that matter most.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hope the task force members will keep in mind these parent stories and testimonies:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Pz-iMw6-AVg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Cristal Salgado\u2019s story about current unfair system for transportation,<\/strong><\/a> which prevents families from accessing several quality public schools because they don\u2019t offer transportation.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/stand.org\/indiana\/our-stories\/our-children-deserve-an-equitable-education\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parent advocate LaToya Hale Tahirou\u2019s&nbsp; testimony<\/a> <\/strong>on the need for using data on student outcomes to drive decision-making \u2013 especially around growing school models that are working best for students who have struggled the most.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/obyd3j9U44I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Sashah Fletcher\u2019s comments<\/strong><\/a> on ensuring fair funding across all public school types.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Advocates have been clear about the need to address the painful achievement gap that persists in IPS and other districts inside Indianapolis\/Marion County. The ILEA represents a great opportunity to think about how the best in both sectors \u2013 IPS and public charter schools \u2013 can be leveraged to deliver dramatically better outcomes for all students, including those who remain furthest from opportunity.&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But that work begins with listening to parents \u2013 these parents \u2013 who have lived in the system and know what needs to be done to address the core issues that continue to stand in the way of fairness and equal opportunity for every child to succeed.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About This Series: Understanding the Indianapolis Local Education Alliance (ILEA)<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2025, Indiana lawmakers passed House Bill 1515, establishing the <strong>Indianapolis Local Education Alliance (ILEA)<\/strong>\u2014a task force comprised of local leaders led by the mayor of Indianapolis &nbsp;with the goal of generating ideas to ensure IPS traditional schools and the charter sector are collaborating to improve student outcomes. The ILEA is not about choosing one type of school over another. It\u2019s about building a <strong>cohesive system of schools<\/strong>\u2014district, charter, and innovation\u2014that work together to deliver better outcomes for all students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This blog series explores the key policy areas that our advocates believe are essential to creating a high-performing, student-centered education system.
