{"id":134,"date":"2022-06-21T05:43:54","date_gmt":"2022-06-21T05:43:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stand.org\/illinois\/?page_id=134"},"modified":"2022-09-08T15:57:21","modified_gmt":"2022-09-08T15:57:21","slug":"learn-from-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/stand.org\/illinois\/learn-from-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Learn from History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-learn-from-history\">Learn from History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A broad, bipartisan majority of Americans agree: for students to create a better society, schools need to provide a thorough, accurate, and fact-based history education and teach students to reject racism and respect the equal value of every person.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With misinformation seemingly everywhere and teachers across the country either being forced to omit difficult parts of our history or not even teaching students that racism is wrong, many teachers receive an additional stress at the worst possible time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To counter this,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learnfromhistory.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learn from History<\/a>, a coalition facilitated by Stand for Children Leadership Center and consisting of parents, educators, and concerned Americans, was formed to take a stand against efforts to ban teaching about racism and other forms of oppression in public K-12 schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This group effort includes members like the AASA, the school superintendents\u2019 association; the American Federation of Teachers; the National School Boards Association; Teach Plus, and many more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learnfromhistory.org\/our-partners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">partner organizations<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can learn more about Learn from History and join this vital work at\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/learnfromhistory.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LearnFromHistory.org<\/a>. There, you\u2019ll find toolkits to help ensure that schools can continue teaching fact-based history.
