Now that I\u2019ve learned more, I know that the State Board plays a really important role guiding education in our state.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For better or worse, decisions made by the elected directors of the State Board of Education will impact education for my kids. So, why am I writing you about the State Board of Education today? It\u2019s because towards the very end of our very long general election ballot this year is your decision on who you want to represent you on the State Board. You will also vote for an At-Large (statewide) Director, a seat added after the most recent census.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/stand.org\/colorado\/our-endorsements-for-2022-general-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>READ ABOUT WHO WE ARE SUPPORTING<\/strong><\/a><strong><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are seven elected members of the State Board responsible for overseeing the Colorado Department of Education, appointing our commissioner, approving our education budget, accrediting school districts and the programs preparing our teachers, and distributing millions of federal dollars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a few ways the State Board is impacting education in Colorado RIGHT NOW:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/co.chalkbeat.org\/colorado-reading\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">They are taking action to ensure teacher preparation programs prepare teachers to teach students how to read&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpr.org\/2022\/10\/11\/colorado-school-board-social-studies-revision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">They are poised to vote on updates to K-12 social studies standards<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li><li>Administering grant dollars for dropout prevention&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure that those elected to the State Board of Education reflect Colorado\u2019s values and commitment to our students.
