A&nbsp;proposed&nbsp;tax loophole for the ultra-wealthy at the expense&nbsp;of&nbsp;funding created by Prop 208 \u2013 Invest in Ed.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(PHOENIX)&#8211;&nbsp;This week, Prop 208 \u2013 Invest in&nbsp;Ed began&nbsp;airing a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/eYUOaRLNHrI\">new TV ad<\/a>&nbsp;exposing&nbsp;the effort by Arizona legislators to cut&nbsp;hundreds of millions in revenue for schools created by Prop 208 \u2013 Invest in Ed, which was passed by voters in November.&nbsp;The TV ad also urges voters to stand with teachers, parents and urge their legislators&nbsp;to vote \u201cNO\u201d on&nbsp;SB 1783.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a very emotional and&nbsp;partisan&nbsp;committee hearing,&nbsp;<strong>SB 1783 advanced and&nbsp;could&nbsp;head to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Truth About Prop 208\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eYUOaRLNHrI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIf SB 1783 passes,\u00a0Arizona teachers, students, and schools will lose over $377 million in funding. Meanwhile, 6,000 millionaires get a $35,000 per year tax break. That\u2019s more than\u00a0Arizona&#8217;s\u00a0average starting teacher salary\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>said Rebecca Gau, Executive Director of Stand for Children Arizona.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/stand.org\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/large\/public\/Arizona\/RG%20BW.png?itok=SAlO9iLi\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cMake no mistake. Despite the lies told by legislators who want to stop us, even the Joint Legislative Budget Committee analysis shows that this is a specific attack on Prop 208 \u2013 Invest in Ed, passed by 1.7 million voters in November. SB 1783 violates the Voter Protection Act and could lead to yet another expensive lawsuit for the state.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/legtext\/55leg\/1R\/fiscal\/SB1783R.DOCX.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Joint Legislative Budget Committee report<\/a>, the revenue cuts will only affect revenue created by Prop 208 \u2013 Invest in Ed, thus violating the Voter Protection Act.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe\u00a0Prop 208 \u2013 Invest in Ed\u00a0ad\u00a0alerts voters to the cynical, underhanded actions at the legislature and asks them to take action,\u201d\u00a0Gau continued.\u00a0\u201cOver the last few years, public opinion polls have shown that education\u00a0is THE\u00a0most important issue for voters.\u00a0The legislature has clearly forgotten that. We want to make sure they remember.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>A new public opinion poll released this month by Stand for Children Arizona&nbsp;confirms&nbsp;that&nbsp;a majority of&nbsp;Arizonans want Prop 208 \u2013 Invest in Ed to be fully implemented and oppose SB&nbsp;&nbsp;1783.&nbsp;The survey was conducted in March 2021 by Moore Information Group. Key findings from this poll include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A majority of&nbsp;voters disapprove of Senate Bill 1783 \u2013 which would create an entirely new tax category allowing some&nbsp;wealthy individuals&nbsp;to avoid the voter-approved Prop 208 surcharge for education.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Majorities of voters who are somewhat Conservative (52%) or Moderate (56%) are\u00a0less likely to support Republican legislators who vote in favor of SB 1783.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>59% oppose SB 1783 after hearing arguments both for and against\u00a0the bill.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>49% of voters surveyed answered that they would be\u00a0less likely\u00a0to vote for a State Representative who attempts to overturn Proposition 208\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe legislature is attempting to illegally undermine the 1.7 million Arizona voters who passed Prop 208 &#8211; Invest\u00a0In\u00a0Ed.
