Spokane Parent Felllow

"When my son was in kindergarten, his teacher didn't know how to handle his ADD and I didn't understand why he was struggling in his classroom. I had to visit his school every day to figure out what was going on. He wasn't being challenged! Eventually I transferred him to another teacher who could help, but I know that for many members of my community who only speak Spanish, this would not have been so simple. Language is a major barrier for Spanish-speaking families who want to engage with the Spokane school system. I want to use my skills as a bilingual mom and a preschool teacher to help families find the information they need for their kids.

I am a Parent Fellow with Stand because I want to help. I want parents and family members who speak Spanish to know that they can come to me with questions and together with Stand we can help find the answer. If we work together we can help our kids get what they need to succeed at school."
