Katie developed her passion for storytelling and communication as a competitor in high school speech and debate tournaments while growing up in Texas. After earning a B.A. from West Texas A&M University in Communication Studies and an M.A. from Emerson College in Communication Management, Katie served as the communications coordinator for a homeless women’s shelter in Boston, Massachusetts. She shifted gears to work in craft beer marketing in Austin, Texas before moving to Seattle in 2017. Katie’s career has been built upon the skills she started learning during her own public education and she’s eager to bring her communication knowledge to the fight for education equity and social justice in Washington. Katie uses she/her pronouns, practices yoga, and is a proud dog mom to her spoiled 70lb pit bull mix, Paisley. She lives in Seattle with her partner Paige and is grateful for the Pacific Northwest’s reprieve from the Texas heat.
