This week in Washington, our hearts are with the students, families, educators, and community members of Freeman High School. The death of one student and injuries of others at the hands of a fellow student is traumatic and tragic.
For those with the responsibility of talking to children about this week’s events, we’ve gathered some resources that we hope are helpful for what can be emotional and difficult conversations:
- 15 Tips for Talking with Children About School Violence, from Colorín Colorado
- The Teacher’s Role When Tragedy Strikes, from Child Mind Institute (también en Español)
- En Español: Conversando con Niños Sobre la Violencia: Sugerencias para Padres y Maestros (PDF) de National Association of School Psychologists
Although school at Freeman will start again on Monday, we know that the impact of this week will be felt forever. The healing process is just beginning, and the community’s strength will carry it forward. You are all in our hearts.
Standing with you in these trying times,
Stand for Children Washington
