When it comes to making decisions about the future of our schools, we must elect local leaders who will keep children front and center in their policy priorities. That is why we get involved in elections by endorsing strong candidates for the Tacoma School Board.

We endorse education champions who share our desire for bold change, who will make education their top priority, who can work strategically and effectively, and who will work with the community over the long term to improve outcomes for students in Tacoma.

Andrea Cobb is one of those candidates for the Tacoma School Board.

Ms. Cobb was born and raised in Tacoma and attended Tacoma Public Schools.  She knows firsthand the needs and challenges facing the district, and her commitment to serving all students and closing the achievement gap in Tacoma made her a clear choice for our endorsement.  As Tacoma City Director, Liesl Santkuyl said:

“Andrea Cobb impressed us with her life experiences, and knowledge of the issues. We were also thrilled with her enthusiasm and commitment to learning more about the issues within the community. Her thoughtfulness and dedication embodied that of an effective leader. That’s the kind of leadership our students need.”

Andrea Cobb’s personal experience gives her the passion for improving education that is needed to be an effective leader on the school board. “Neither of my parents had an opportunity to pursue postsecondary education,” said Cobb. “I experienced first-hand the power of an education to change the trajectory of a student’s life."

We are excited for Andrea’s candidacy and encourage you to learn more about her and how you can help her campaign.

And don’t forget! The voter registration deadline is July 6th, register to vote here.

How We Made Our Decision

To make a decision about who our organization supports, a committee of parents, board members and staff reviewed each candidate’s questionnaire and conducted interviews with the candidates. The committee was looking for an education champion who will stand up for our priorities.  For detailed information about our Tacoma Board endorsement criteria and Stand Tacoma’s 2015-16 policy agenda click here.
