Timeline

March 2010: The Washington State Senate Passes Bill 6696 declaring the need for a meaningful performance evaluation system for educators in Washington state.

2010-2011: Eight pilot districts and one educational service district helped test a new system of evaluations to ensure this accountability would be taking place.

July 2011: The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) released reports on the pilots to the legislature.

September 2011: OSPI introduced a Regional Implementation Grant (RIG) to allow 65 Washington school districts to get a head start on implementing the new evaluation system.

2011-2012: The pilot districts implemented, tested, and refined the new system of evaluations.

December 2012: Based on lessons learned from pilot sites and RIG districts, OSPI adopted the final system of ratings, along with rules for schools to adopt the new rating system.

2013-2014: All school districts must begin to implement the new evaluation system.

2015-2016: All school districts in Washington will be required to fully implement the new evaluation system.
