School: Raul Quintanilla Middle School
Over the past five years in the classroom I have exemplified this mission in my daily actions wearing many hats within and out of the district. As a Stand Leader and Ed-Policy Fellow with Teaching Trust I've had the opportunity to advocate for kids at the district and state level to ensure all students receive a quality education and an excellent teacher. On the district level, I served as one of the few teacher representatives serving on the TEI committee and brought the teacher voice to help ensure that professional development and support played an integral role in the final evaluation system. On a campus level, I have served as the founding AVID coordinator and teacher at Stockard and helped to create systems at the campus and division level to increase the college and career readiness support students received. This looked like providing monthly professional development sessions for teachers using AVID strategies such as Cornell Notes and Costas's Higher Level of Question as well as developing a monthly parent night to help educate parents and guardians as they begin their journey with their student to college. In addition to these roles, I have made it a priority to take advantage of every opportunity I can find to become a better teacher and leader for the students in Dallas that I serve.
