The Shelby County School Board Elections: A brief case for supporting the right candidates
For the August 2012 Shelby County School Board elections Stand for Children has endorsed candidates in every contested district. This group forms a slate of candidates that will work to get results for all children. It is critical now, with all the transition and momentum underway in Shelby County that we elect board members to office who will champion our priorities and continue the momentum to transform education for our children. This is a key element of Stand’s strategy to improve schools and ensure lasting changes and improvements to our district reach our children.
Our endorsements have come after an 8 week endorsement process that was led by our members. This group of dedicated leaders has taken their responsibility seriously.
- The candidates were researched by members and this information was shared among the committee.
- A candidate questionnaire was developed by committee members and based on Stand for Children’s principles and policy platform, which each candidate received electronically and by postal mail.
- Follow-up interviews were then scheduled with all interested candidates
- The endorsement committee members then conducted in-depth face-to-face interviews.
Through a very transparent voting following the candidate interviews, questionnaires, and vigorous debate, our endorsements were made. These decisions were not made lightly, and we stand by these candidates as we continue to move Shelby County forward.
