Zach Hammer

State Organizing Director

Zach is a native Texan who got an early start in education advocacy. While in high school, Zach served on the student council, competed in varsity athletics, was involved with Future Farmers of America, and was active with the school newspaper, yearbook, and website. Zach attended the University of Houston, double majoring in Finance and Political Science, and was involved in several clubs and academic organizations. Their mother and grandfather served on their local school boards while they were growing up, and their aunt was also a teacher. It was only natural that Zach got into education, too.

Zach got their start as a camp counselor and basketball coach during college, and then became an Education Assistant at Clear Lake Elementary in Eugene. They have been working in education advocacy since 2016, when they got their start at the Oregon Student Association. Most recently, Zach was the Campus Organizing Director for the Kate Brown for Oregon campaign.

In their free time, Zach enjoys cooking authentic Southern BBQ, watching Texas A&M and University of Houston sports, and playing basketball. Zach is extremely passionate about helping others, and is eager to work for a better education system for all.
