Born in Tlalnepantla, Estado de Mexico, Adriana grew up in the Washington County Area. Adriana and her family arrived in the United States in 1993 and she is the youngest of five children. Adriana was raised in a mono-lingual Spanish household with working class parents and her siblings. She attended the neighborhood public schools and was able to follow a path to college thanks to the efforts and motivation provided by many “angels” she encountered while in high school.

Adriana started her college career at Portland Community College. Thanks to scholarships earned she was able to attend full time. After earning her Associate Degree of Science she continued her undergraduate studies at Portland State University while working part time as a Medical Assistant. In 1999, she completed her undergraduate degree with a double major in Health Sciences and Community Health. While going to school and working, Adriana also volunteered her time as a Parish Health Promoter. Adriana has always been involved in the community whether it is through sharing culture as a dancer of the Mexican Folkloric Group or by sharing information about resources to the community at the parish. She believes that by sharing knowledge and engaging people, the community is empowered.
