Beat the Odds Scholar

Becoming a 2019 Beat the Odds scholarship recipient has been life-changing for me.

I am humbled and inspired by the kindness of Stand for Children’s family of advocates and partners, and I am eager to show that same kindness to others any way I can.

For my senior project at Roosevelt High School, I am drawing attention to the Ebola outbreak in my native country, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The outbreak has reportedly claimed more than 1,000 lives since last August, but the World Health Organization still does not call it an emergency.

Categorizing it as an emergency would mean more resources to combat the outbreak, and fewer lives lost as a result.

The DRC may seem like a world away, but the truth is, your voice is vital to saving lives and ending the outbreak.

Please sign my petition below, urging the World Health Organization to reclassify the Ebola outbreak as what it is: an emergency that must be addressed.
