In 2011, Jorge Lopez-Contreras graduated from Wilamette High School as a Beat the Odds Scholar. Our Beat the Odds Scholarship program was started in 2007 to highlight the incredible potential of Oregon's young people as well as the challenges which prevent too many of them from succeeding.

We're proud and honored to share that this summer, Jorge graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Supply Chain & Logistics Management and a Sales Certificate from the College of Businesses Sales Academy.

Graduating High School is a tremendous accomplishment. Graduating college -- especially as the first in your family as Jorge was -- is a huge milestone. But graduating after taking a four year break as Jorge did, is incredible and we are so proud to have been able to support his hard work.

Jorge shared with us, "I can't tell you the difference that the remaining balance made in helping me complete my degree. Thank you everyone at Stand for Children for all you do to support students like me."

This month he headed off to California where he'll be a transportation intern with Driscoll's. "As someone who was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, I am excited to not only be starting this new chapter in my life, but excited to be starting that journey in a place I've never lived. I am so proud to have been able to complete my degree after so many years off. The journey was long, but this chapter of my life is now complete.", Jorge says.

Congratulations to Jorge and to all the Beat the Odds scholars who continue to inspire us!
