Raising Teacher Pay
When it comes to teacher pay, there is no other way to put it—we are dead last in the country. Many of our teachers are either leaving for other states or abandoning the profession altogether.
We are experiencing one of the most severe teacher shortages in the country, due in large part to the fact that Oklahoma teachers haven’t had a pay increase in a decade.
Just this year, the Oklahoma Department of Education had to issue over 1,300 emergency teacher certifications, leaving more than 52,000 Oklahoma students in classrooms with untrained teachers. We are better than this.
Stand for Children Oklahoma believes this is unacceptable, and we will work tirelessly to support a plan with the revenue necessary to give our teachers a fully-funded pay raise without taking away their benefits.
