Stand for Children Oklahoma Executive Director Amber England issued the following statement in response to Governor Mary Fallin’s State of the State Address:
We are encouraged to hear Governor Fallin challenge lawmakers to show the political courage needed to fix the structural budget problems by finding the revenue necessary to increase teacher pay and adequately fund our schools.
Lawmakers must take bold action this legislative session and place every single revenue-raising source on the table.
Oklahomans are tired of seeing their schools starved of the resources needed to provide every child with a quality education and seeing their favorite teachers rely on food pantries to feed their families while giant corporations benefit from generous special interest tax giveaways.
These tax giveaways are contributing year-after-year to a structural budget problem that robs Oklahoma of the ability to deliver the services Oklahomans depend on to climb out of poverty—like public education. Now is the time to tackle real tax reform and finally fix this problem.
