Resources to Receive your COVID-19 Federal Payment

To be eligible for a COVID-19 stimulus direct payment, the government needs to know where to send your funds. But, as many as 10 million Americans do not file tax returns, often because they have little to no taxable income. Below are resources for how to submit your information to the IRS if you did not file, or quickly file a 2018 or 2019 tax return at no cost.

 

IRS Non-Filers Tool. A free and easy option designed for people who are not required to file a tax return, including those with too little income to file.

IRS Free File. Prepare and file your federal individual income tax return for free using tax-preparation-and-filing software.

TurboTax. Receive a free Federal return if:

  • Your Adjusted Gross Income is $36,000 or less, AND any age, or
  • You are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, or
  • Free for active military for Adjusted Gross Income of $69,000 or less
  • Same criteria apply when filing with a foreign address
  • Free state return if you qualify for the federal return

H&R Block. Receive a free Federal return if:

  • Your Adjusted Gross Income is $69,000 or less, AND your age is between 17 and 51, or
  • You are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, or
  • Free for active military for Adjusted Gross Income of $69,000 or less
  • Same criteria apply when filing with a foreign address
  • Free state return if you qualify for the federal return

Check the status of your payment, change your bank info, or mailing address through the IRS. Individuals who filed tax returns before the COVID-19 pandemic may experience these factors with the above resources and should be aware.
