I Lost My Husband to COVID-19

I lost my husband, Saul Ernesto Dominguez, in September because of COVID-19. He was at home when his oxygen levels dropped. By the time we got to the hospital, nothing could be done. He was 42.

My husband earned all of our family’s income, so now I’ve been looking for a job. I can find little opportunities here and there, like cleaning houses, but nothing steady. It’s not enough to pay the rent and bills and buy food.

My 12-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son are both at an age where they’re growing very fast. They need simple things like food, clothes and shoes. I can’t afford to take care of them without assistance.

Fortunately, President Biden has a plan to help families like mine. It includes increased tax credits for families with children and other assistance that could bring us out of this dark place. Please ask your lawmakers in Washington to support this plan.

The pandemic has affected everyone in different ways, but you can’t understand the fear and devastation until it hits you directly. I need to find a job. I need to provide for my kids. But until then, my family still needs to eat, to have a place to live, and to have our basic needs met. You can take action today to help us and the many other families who have lost so much in this pandemic.
