I know this is a stressful and uncertain time. Families are having to make serious sacrifices and adjustments to do their part to contain the spread of COVID-19. But even with everything going on, it is critically important to still participate in the 2020 Census.

By now, you have likely received material in the mail about instructions, or if not, you should very soon. There are three ways to participate in the Census: online, by phone, or by mail.

It is extremely important for your family to take part and for every person who lives in your household to be counted. Why does it matter?

Here are just some of the things the Census count determines:

  • How many seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives
  • The amount of federal funding given to children's programs, including special education, Head Start, and school-provided lunches
  • The need for new roads, schools, and hospitals
  • Helps government prepare for emergency response for future disasters

Once you receive your invitation to respond in the mail, you can go to 2020census.gov to take the questionnaire. It should only take a few minutes to complete, yet this one small act will be extremely beneficial for families and children in your community over the next many years.
