High expectations + inspiration = magic. That's what happens in classrooms around the country when students are challenged and asked to rise to meet those challenges. If we want our students to be ready to do college level work the second they step on campus, we have to prepare them all the way through their academic career.

Our friends at The New Teacher Project (TNTP) have an amazing new look at five students who have succeeded and are thriving in the classroom. It's called Room to Run, telling the stories of Martin, Abril, Shatavia, Ashley, and David.

TNTP reviewed thousands of assignments given to students in districts committed to higher standards - what they found was that only about 4 in 10 of those assignments were challenging enough to prepare kids for college. And when students show up in college unprepared, they have to spend extra money on remedial courses that don't count towards course credit.

Room to Run lets us hear from the students directly about how they were challenged and how they are succeeding.

Check it out.
