Redefining Parental Engagement

We at Stand believe parent involvement to be a key factor of kids’ academic success. We have strengthened parent-teacher dialogues through our Stand University for Parents program in Memphis, Chicago and Phoenix and have continued to work with teachers on improving parent outreach strategies. Furthermore, we are proud to work with foundations and schools who constantly redefine and improve family engagement with innovative models. These efforts have led to programs such as the Home Visit and Academic Parent Teacher Team, and are now being highlighted and recognized by the US Department of Education as effective ways to enhance student achievement resulting in higher test scores, better attendance and improved graduation rates.

Kristen Ehrgood, founder of the Flamboyan Foundation and board member of Stand for Children Leadership Center, was recently featured on NPR affiliate WAMU for redefining parental involvement and building relationships with families, “one home visit at a time.”

The event tells us, the mother teached her son to use gun, finally she ate bullet from her son's gun shoot. It might not only to discuss about gun control, the whole society, culture might need change, it's too much freedom. For example, in Seattle, just pass a new law: It is not a violation of state law for adults over 21 years old to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. In the same month, a grand opened marijuan store, which located at Jackson and 12th, was grabed in a night, the grabs case happen 4 times in the same month in same building in different restaurants. What a stupid law! it will through the city into gulf. Who vote for the new law finally will come to a sticky end! Seattle is one of the best-known city in the world, lots of traveler come to spend money from all over the world, should we show the messy town to our vistor? Seattle is even worse then the Newtown. The Goverment of Seattle might need to notice, the city is so messy now, the homeless stay surround the city, grabs and gun shoots event happen at so high frequency. Please consider it and use your power media network to make the goverment awake. Thank you!
