Vice President of Communications

The Position

Your role stands at the intersection of communications strategy and the fight to change the odds for low-income children and families. As a key member of Stand’s executive leadership team, you guide a national communications team and work closely with the leadership of Stand’s 11 state-based affiliates. As someone who is motivated by results and impact, you have the opportunity to work with colleagues who not only care deeply about justice and equity of opportunity, but recognize that passion is not enough – the work we do must actually change lives. Through your leadership of the communications team, and close coordination with our policy and advocacy staff, you help to empower families as leaders and to advance candidates and policies that put children’s needs first.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Stand’s communications vision and strategy, including media relations and digital communications
  • Develop and execute an integrated strategic marketing and communications plan
  • Create tactical plans for national and state-level communications and marketing
  • Manage a high-performing team that includes the National Digital Director and National Marketing and Communications Director
  • Partner with State Executive Directors and Marketing and Communications Directors

Qualifications

  • Passionate and unwavering belief in that all children can and must graduate from high school prepared for and with access to college or career training
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated success and leadership in managing comprehensive strategic marketing and communications efforts, preferably within political and/or issue advocacy environments;
  • Superb, proven management skills, ideally within a matrix management organization
  • Experience with large scale and/or digital fundraising a plus
  • Roles typically require the ability to be stationary for extended periods of time, to travel to meetings outside of the office, to lift more than 10 pounds on occasion, and may require the ability to climb stairs
