    Jason Williams received his B.A. degree in political science from Boston College. After graduating, he joined Teach For America (TFA) and taught 6th grade Math and Science in East Oakland. In 1999, he was nominated for California's Middle School Teacher of the Year Award.

    Ranjini comes to her work with Stand armed with over a decade of experience in education reform founded on her experience as a former classroom teacher, education law attorney, and policy analyst. She approaches her work with a firm belief that all students can learn if given effective teachers and the other tools needed to bridge the socioeconomic achievement gap.

    Born and raised in the Midwest, Priya has spent the past 10 years working with schools and organizations that focus on improving educational outcomes for urban students. After receiving her degree in Child Development from Tufts University and a Master of Arts in Education from Columbia University's Teachers College, Priya spent three years teaching at The Bronx Guild, a Big Picture Learning school in the South Bronx, one of the nation's most underserved communities.

    Sam Castañeda Holdren’s passion for justice began at a young age: in grade school, he formed a group to advocate for environmental justice; in middle school, he stood up for the local tribal community, calling out the racial injustice; and through high school, he advocated for students’ rights, challenging administrative decisions by petitioning the school board and using the power of the pen as editor of his weekly high school newspaper to expose issues.
  • Brandy F. Oakley

    Brandy F. Oakley is a Mattapan-native and Boston Latin School graduate. Brandy graduated from Syracuse University magna cum laude with two Bachelor’s degrees in Policy Studies (B.A.) with an urban education reform concentration, and Social Work (B.S.). Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, Brandy taught 3rd grade in Baltimore, MD, as a Teach For America Corps Member.
  • Kathryn Alexander

    Field Manager
    Kathryn Alexander is a proud graduate of the Massachusetts public school system and Skidmore College, where she received a B.A. in Social Work in 2010. While at Skidmore, Kathryn participated in a youth mentoring program and student government, as class president. Upon graduation, Kathryn worked at Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York, helping to lobby for state and federal reproductive health care and sex education legislation.
  • Laura Gardner

    Laura Gardner graduated from Dartmouth College in 2010 with a major in Psychology and minor in Education Policy. At Dartmouth, she dedicated her extra-curricular pursuits to understanding and alleviating educational inequities, serving as a mentor, research fellow, teaching fellow, and intern in the office of Representative Barney Frank. As the Development Manager, Laura is responsible for managing grant and donor relationships for the MA state affiliate.

    Mac attended Xavier University (OH) where he majored in English with a minor in Business. He served a year of AmeriCorps VISTA in Mayor Menino’s Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition, where he coordinated a tax-site for lower income families in Dorchester, MA. From a young age, Mac was surrounded by adults and teachers that truly took an interest in his education and well-being; he is thrilled to be part of an organization that is committed to having that same type of impact on children’s lives.
  • Anika Gregg

    A Massachusetts native, Anika comes from a long line of teachers and educators. Her own educational exploits led her to Princeton University, where she earned a BA in European History. Following graduation, Anika spent nearly a decade in theater management, including three years touring the US. Through these and other travels she saw how the difference in access to quality education, even in communities separated by just a few miles of highway, can greatly impact children’s lives and opportunities.

    Alex's interest in education began at the University of Georgia while studying the inequalities within the education system. Alex learned, firsthand, how drastically different a child's education can be based on their zip code, so she decided to take action. Upon graduating in 2010 with sociology and advertising degrees, she moved to Boston to volunteer as an AmeriCorps' City Year member, tutoring and mentoring students who struggled academically and socially.
  • Luz Zenaida Lopez

    Luz, an American of Puerto Rican descent, was born and raised in Springfield and is a product of the Springfield Public Schools. Luz became an advocate for her community at a very young age, with early involvement in education excellence initiatives, supporting the community’s elderly population, and volunteer work with HIV patients.
  • Giovanny Valencia

    Giovanny is a former Architect from Colombia with a background in politics, education and community development. In his home city of Bogota, he became involved in politics through campaigning and supporting local and national candidates in Colombia. His community work in Bogota included developing projects and strategies focused on relief efforts related to natural disasters, such as landslides, affecting extremely poor communities in the mountains around the city.
  • Maggie Paynich

    Maggie is from the smallest state in the union, with big dreams for making public education the best it can be. She attended public schools in Warwick, RI and moved to Washington, D.C. to attend Trinity University. Her interest in education policy grew as she interned at education based organizations while earning her B.A. in Political Science.
