    Jason Williams received his B.A. degree in political science from Boston College. After graduating, he joined Teach For America (TFA) and taught 6th grade Math and Science in East Oakland. In 1999, he was nominated for California's Middle School Teacher of the Year Award.

Her passion for social justice work comes from a deep rooted belief in inclusiveness, acceptance, and the power of ordinary citizens to shape the world around them.

    Born and raised in the Midwest, Priya has spent the past 10 years working with schools and organizations that focus on improving educational outcomes for urban students. After receiving her degree in Child Development from Tufts University and a Master of Arts in Education from Columbia University's Teachers College, Priya spent three years teaching at The Bronx Guild, a Big Picture Learning school in the South Bronx, one of the nation's most underserved communities.

    Sam Castañeda Holdren’s passion for justice began at a young age: in grade school, he formed a group to advocate for environmental justice; in middle school, he stood up for the local tribal community, calling out the racial injustice; and through high school, he advocated for students’ rights, challenging administrative decisions by petitioning the school board and using the power of the pen as editor of his weekly high school newspaper to expose issues.

    Mac attended Xavier University (OH) where he majored in English with a minor in Business. He served a year of AmeriCorps VISTA in Mayor Menino’s Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition, where he coordinated a tax-site for lower income families in Dorchester, MA. From a young age, Mac was surrounded by adults and teachers that truly took an interest in his education and well-being; he is thrilled to be part of an organization that is committed to having that same type of impact on children’s lives.
  • Maura Flanagan

    Maura graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 2010, where she received her BA in Political Science with a concentration in Peace and Conflict. While at Holy Cross Maura volunteered with various non-profits and local political campaigns and interned at the Boston office of the late Senator Kennedy. Following graduation, Maura served as the Campaign Manager for State Senator Harriette Chandler’s 2010 re-election bid, and later as the Legislative Aide for State Senator Michael Moore.
  • Laura Gardner

    Laura Gardner graduated from Dartmouth College in 2010 with a major in Psychology and minor in Education Policy. At Dartmouth, she dedicated her extra-curricular pursuits to understanding and alleviating educational inequities, serving as a mentor, research fellow, teaching fellow, and intern in the office of Representative Barney Frank. As the Development Manager, Laura is responsible for managing grant and donor relationships for the MA state affiliate.
  • Sam Geller

    A native of Berkeley California, Sam’s interest in education took hold as a student in Berkeley Public Schools where he witnessed firsthand the disparity in public education based on what school you were assigned. As an undergraduate at Bates College, Sam served as a Middle School Special Education and English tutor for America Reads and the Social Action Coordinator for Bates College Hillel. Sam became the first of his family to graduate from college earning a degree in American Cultural Studies in 2009. Sam has spent the last two years developing leaders across Massachusetts and organizing for electoral justice, most recently as a Lead Organizer with MassVOTE, working to increase voter education and participation in underrepresented communities.
  • Anika Gregg

    A Massachusetts native, Anika comes from a long line of teachers and educators. Her own educational exploits led her to Princeton University, where she earned a BA in European History. Following graduation, Anika spent nearly a decade in theater management, including three years touring the US. Through these and other travels she saw how the difference in access to quality education, even in communities separated by just a few miles of highway, can greatly impact children’s lives and opportunities. Anika’s itinerant path eventually led her to Stand, where she’s proud to work with passionate colleagues on such an engaging and important mission.
