We're in the midst of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, and as a Villanova Wildcat, I'm pumped to see my team in the Sweet Sixteen this Friday. My bracket might be busted, but I can't be too bummed since the Cats are still in it!
This is a great time to be a college basketball fan, and if the games this past weekend taught us anything, it's that underdogs can beat the odds and come out on top. In Massachusetts, 71 percent of children from low-income families aren't reading on grade level in third grade - this has far-reaching implications, especially for high school success (and going on to college!). Here at Stand, we want to see all kids defy expectations and succeed in school.
With some downtime before the tournament continues this weekend, I encourage our community to get involved with Every Child Reads. With you in our corner, we can help change the odds for all Massachusetts kids. Here are some ways you can participate in Stand's March Madness:
- Donate to our Every Child Reads campaign
- Sign our pledge if you haven't already, and share it with your networks if you have
- If you're a parent or teacher, read articles about the tournament with your kids - ask them to make predictions or recap games
- Read one of these basketball-themed books with your child
I'll be cheering on the Wildcats, but I'll also be fighting alongside Stand and Every Child Reads. Will you join me?
