I'm excited to combine my diverse communications experiences with my education background to promote Stand's work.

The Governor’s budget clearly reflects his commitment to struggling schools and to closing Massachusetts’ Achievement Gap. Stand for Children is committed to working with this administration’s education leadership to make certain all our schools, and all our students succeed. That starts by addressing the state’s literacy crisis – as 53 percent of Commonwealth third graders can’t read at grade level. To that end we are strongly pursuing The Early Literacy Act – a bill that would give schools the tools they need to teach reading to students before they fall too far behind. Right now too many Massachusetts students in low-income school districts cannot read by grade three, which has lifelong economic, health and social consequences.

We can make a difference for millions of students with one simple step: Be sure they are able to read, and to succeed.

Governor Bakers FY 18 Budget.
