I hope you had the chance to spend some time with your family and reflect on all that you are thankful for this holiday and the coming season.
I joined Stand when my daughter was only about three months old. Time flies when you’re having fun, and she is now only a year and a half away from starting preschool. I’m glad I got involved when I did.
What I have learned as a parent, who is now expecting a second child in February, is that it is never too early to begin to advocate for your children. My mom was 16 when she got pregnant with me and had two kids by the time she was 18. Despite being a young mother, she recognized that quality education provides lifelong opportunities and growth. She was never too shy to advocate for her children if it meant we could get the extra care and attention we needed to succeed in school. I learned from her never to shy away from fighting to get what you deserve.
Having children really makes you realize that time is a commodity. It is so valuable and precious. There are only 24 hours in a day and you cannot make more time or get any of it back.
My husband and I are taking action today and every day to make a difference for our daughter and all children of the Commonwealth. We’re using every minute, hour, and second to ensure our daughter Sofya has the highest quality education possible. As you sit around the table and enjoy your family meal, please consider donating to ensure all children have an advocate who makes the most of every second.
