Another year, another successful Member Summit in the books.
Once again, Stand for Children Massachusetts came together to celebrate and thank our members by hosting a day of family fun, workshops, and an early literacy panel.
Stand Executive Director Ranjini Govender moderated a panel of experts on early literacy with Springfield Principal Nate Higgins of Impact Prep; Early Educator at Bright Horizons Boston and Executive Director for Children Across America Katie Millay; and Director of the Lawrence Public Library Jessica Valentin.
The panel addressed challenges associated with early literacy work in various communities as well as ways to overcome these obstacles. They also answered questions from the audience, such as how to encourage older children who do not enjoy reading or what to do when parents work a lot and have limited time.
Members spent the afternoon in workshops, where they worked in small groups to develop sample campaigns to address bullying, early literacy, and chronic absenteeism. We wrapped up the day with a raffle and the announcement of our 2017 Member of the Year, Empowerment Zone Team Captain Audrey Cunningham. Thank you to our members for making this truly another remarkable year.
