Sara developed a passion for equal education opportunities for all students as a teacher assistant in her hometown.

On May 2, Stand for Children Massachusetts is participating in Valley Gives – a 24-hour online giving event that allows individuals to support nonprofit and charitable organizations throughout Western Massachusetts’ Pioneer Valley. The event is an initiative of the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. In 2016, more than $1.6 million was raised for over 450 nonprofits in the Pioneer Valley.

At Stand, all Valley Gives donations will go toward our family and community engagement efforts in Springfield. Your donation will go towards:

-       Programs like our open house visits, coffee hours, and family nights
-       Field trips that show parents high-performing schools in action
-       Workshops that give parents the tools to support their child’s education
-       Helping parents find their voice

Interested in supporting Stand? Visit our Valley Gives profile page and make a donation. We’re in the running for some extra funding, so every dollar counts! Valley Gives is on May 2, but individuals can start pledging their donations as early as Tuesday, April 25; just go to our donation page to make a gift.

We can win prizes and matching grants from the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts based on the number of donors, geographic range of donors, or age range of donors – there are even special prizes for the organization who has the most donors under age 40, the first donation made after sunset, or the last donation of the night.

Stand’s Springfield chapter has been hard at work organizing parents of children in the Springfield Empowerment Zone schools, and we’ve engaged more than 800 parents in the past school year alone. This year, we’re launching the Parent Teacher Home Visit Project and partnering with Springfield Public Schools on the Parent Community Advisory Council. We’re counting on our supporters across the state to tag in for Valley Gives; this is a great opportunity to secure much-needed funding for our Springfield chapter.
