Audrey Cunningham takes an active role in her children’s education and well-being so that her kids can have an academic edge over their peers. Research shows that children with attentive, involved parents are more likely to receive better grades, enroll in advanced programs, graduate from high school, and go on to college. Supporting Stand empowers, even more parents to get involved.
Audrey grew up in Brooklyn, NY, but moved to Springfield, MA for smaller class sizes and a better education for her children. She has a son, daughters, and a nephew in Springfield Public Schools and a daughter enrolled at UMass Dartmouth. Audrey was President of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at her child's school and joined Stand in early 2016 as a member of the Empowerment Zone team. She is passionate about ensuring that her children, and all children, receive a high-quality public education, and is a pillar of her community as she builds relationships with school officials and neighbors.
Since joining Stand, Audrey completed her leader training, recruited members to join her on the Empowerment Zone team, and participated in several Stand events at Duggan Middle School, where her son attends. Audrey also participated in our Member Summit and was nominated to join the Member Spokespeople cohort, finishing her training in October 2016.
Making a gift to Stand for Children Massachusetts empowers parents like Audrey to stand up for their children, but it does more than that: it shows all students in Massachusetts that you’re standing with them, too.
It may not be #GivingTuesday anymore, but it's never too late to contribute. A tax-deductible monthly gift of $10 will support Massachusetts children throughout the year.
