“I’ll be sure to mark this day on the calendar. Thank you so much, we will mark this day on the calendar and remember it during voting time,”- Dr. Johnny Young, United Faith Leaders.
This election season Stand for Children Louisiana members and leaders did not forget how they had been treated when they were silenced at a board meeting in August and they flexed their power at the ballot box. This election season Stand for Children members took an active role to ensure that bold, courageous education champions were elected to school boards in Jefferson Parish and East Baton Rouge Parish in order to advocate for every child in the district to receive a high-quality education.
In East Baton Rouge Parish an endorsement committee chose to endorse and support four candidates who were ultimately elected to the board, including two graduates of the Education Leadership Institute and the two youngest African American Males to ever represent students there.
Members also chose to endorse and support six bold candidates in Jefferson Parish, including a graduate of the Education Leadership Institute Jefferson Parish.
Through the course of the election members and volunteers knocked on more than 17,000 doors in East Baton Rouge Parish and more than 6,000 in Jefferson Parish, as well as making close to 35,000 calls to voters.
When it came to showing up for students this election, Stand for Children Louisiana members proved just how hard they are willing to work to make sure that our children have the best representation on their local school boards.
