Celebrating Stand Education Superhero Charles Lamar

For five years, Stand for Children Louisiana has fought alongside parents, partners, teachers and the community to improve education in our state for all children. As you can imagine, five years of Standing Strong takes time, perseverance and hard work.

Most of all – it takes a group of dedicated people who are committed to making their world a better place, and over the course of 2017 we would like to continue introduce you to a handful of those people who make this work possible, those individuals who fight for students and teachers – our very own Education Superheroes.

Charles Lamar – investing in Baton Rouge’s youngest learners

“A person’s true character is revealed by what he does when no one is watching” –Sigmund Miller.

To know a person’s true character, look at what they do in their spare time, when no one is looking. For Mr. Lamar, it’s giving back to his community and investing in organizations that make a true difference in his areas of passion: education, animal welfare, and conservation. Since its creation in 2000, the Charles Lamar Family Foundation has invested more than $8,000,000 in the areas of education, animal welfare, conservation, social services, and arts & culture.

Through the Charles Lamar Family Foundation, Mr. Lamar has been investing in Stand Louisiana since 2013, and his investment, partnership, and friendship continually pushes us to do better for Louisiana’s youngest learners.

Always one to say yes, Mr. Lamar joined the Stand Baton Rouge team for an evening of parent workshops at the Scottlandville Library back in December 2016. Just a few months after the devastating floods had hit the area, we chose to also invite kids to come and enjoy just being kids for an evening. They made arts and crafts, played games, ate pizza, and were each given an educational gift to start the holiday season off with a bang.

For Mr. Lamar, his interest goes beyond just investment and is a true interest in the causes he cares so deeply about. Mr. Lamar always knows the latest data, best practices, goings-on in Baton Rouge, and asks all the right questions when we meet.

For this, and so much more, we celebrate Charles Lamar and the Charles Lamar Family Foundation – our very own Education Superhero!
