Development Director

Karen is the Development Director for Stand for Children Louisiana

For five years, Stand for Children Louisiana has fought alongside parents, partners, teachers and the community to improve education in our state for all children. But five years of Standing Strong takes time, perseverance and hard work.

Most of all – it takes a group of dedicated people who are committed to making their world a better place, and over the course of 2017 we would like to introduce you to a handful of those people who make this work possible, those individuals who fight for students and teachers – our very own Education Superheroes.

Pro Bono Publico Foundation – New Orleans Philanthropic Superhero

For the second year in a row, Pro Bono Publico has invested more than $1,000,000 in organizations working to transform and improve New Orleans’ education landscape.

After returning to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, members of the Rex Organization launched “Operation Pro Bono Publico,” with projects named for the three colors of Mardi Gras: Project Gold provided financial assistance to first responders who had lost their homes to the floodwaters, Project Green organized volunteers who cleaned up the streets after Carnival, and Project Purple focused on revitalizing the city’s education system (to learn more about these specific projects, click this link to visit the Pro Bono Publico website).

Members of the Rex Organization realized that the one-time recovery efforts weren’t enough, so the Pro Bono Public Foundation was born with the goal of supporting rebuilding efforts, with a focus on education and organizations, like Stand for Children, working to improve educational outcomes for students.

Stand is honored to be among the 63 organizations awarded grants for programs in 2017, and proud to call the Pro Bono Publico Foundation one of our Education Superheroes. Working “For The Public Good,” as their Latin name and motto indicates, is exactly what members of the Rex Organization do. As individuals, they come together to provide astounding levels of philanthropic support to organizations, like Stand, working every day to improve the education our city provides to our students. We could not be more proud to have Pro Bono Publico as one of our local partners and superheroes.
