(New Orleans) – Stand for Children Louisiana parents and educators are proud to announce support for seven candidates in the upcoming Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) election. Stand parents in New Orleans and Baton Rouge volunteered to participate in the endorsement committees for candidates in their districts and Stand educator members led the endorsement process for candidates in other districts throughout the state.
Stand for Children Louisiana Parent and Educator endorsed candidates for BESE are:
- BESE District 1: Jim Garvey ( R )
- BESE District 2: Kira Orange-Jones ( D )
- BESE District 3: Sandy Holloway ( R )
- BESE District 4: Tony Davis ( R )
- BESE District 5: Gary Jones ( R )
- BESE District 7: Holly Boffy ( R )
- BESE District 8: Jada Lewis ( D )
“We need leaders on the board who understand our community, our kids and our schools, so that they can make the best decisions for our students. That’s why it is so important that we, as parents, have the chance to talk to and vet those candidates we’re asking to represent us,” explained Baton Rouge committee member and father, Eric Brown.
Stand for Children Louisiana’s Parent and Educator Endorsement Committees included more than a dozen parents and educators from across the state. Candidate Questionnaires were sent to candidates, the endorsement committees then reviewed each candidates’ responses or voting records, conducted interviews with candidates as needed, scored each candidate on the issues of importance to them, and reached a majority decision on which candidates they believed would stand boldly for students.
“We know that those closest to the students are best prepared to make decisions that are in their best interest. This is why parents and educators lead our Stand endorsement process and identify those candidates who will be bold, courageous leaders for our Louisiana students. Our students only deserve elected leaders who will put them before politics 100% of the time and I am certain that we can count on these Stand endorsed candidates that our parents and educators have chosen to never let us down. They are the individuals who will best serve the children of our state,” explained Carrie Griffin Monica, Executive Director of Stand for Children Louisiana.
