Lauren Alayza

Bilingual Parent Organizer

Lauren grew up around Indianapolis on a fiber farm helping her family care for llamas, alpacas, chickens, and angora goats, and participated in 4H as a 10-year member. She is a first-generation Peruvian-American, being bilingual in English and Spanish. Lauren has a background as a classically trained cellist and self-taught fiber artist, but has focused her passion for preserving school music and art programs into advocacy efforts. As a past member of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, Lauren has fond memories attending weekly orchestra rehearsals at the IPS Crispus Attucks High School.

Lauren is a graduate from the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts with a BA in Political Science. While Lauren was completing her undergraduate work, she had the opportunity to organize several campaigns, including both issue-based and political campaigns.  After serving as a field organizer for the successful All IN 4 Pre-K campaign that sought to expand access of high-quality Pre-Kindergarten education to 4 year olds' across Indiana, Lauren desired to utilize her skills by engaging with families and community stakeholders to help improve the quality of education available to IPS families.

In her new role as Parent Organizer with Stand for Children, Lauren is thrilled to help elevate parent stories and teach others methods to support their children while breaking the cycle of poverty through access to high quality education. As an individual who values human, environmental, and animal rights, Lauren can tell you about her favorite vegan and vegetarian restaurants around town, and is always happy to share her best-loved plant based, whole food recipes with others.
