Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Joel began working in education reform and adult education in 2007. He started off helping churches establish charter schools in Columbia, South Carolina with the Clergy for Educational Options, and worked with agencies in NYC that provided employment training and higher education options for New Yorkers.
Joel got his first opportunity in politics with Kevin Powell's (MTV Real World) run for Congress in Brooklyn, and has since gone on to manage field programs across the country for Education Reform Now, StudentsFirst, NextGen America, and Organize Florida, as well as a few candidate races. Outside of work he mentors in Big Brothers/Big Sisters and has a 6-year-old son who’s destined to be a ninja. In his role as Indiana Field Director, he hopes to bring a solid understanding of Stand's mission to Hoosiers and get them fired up about accomplishing it with us.
