Joel Williams came to Stand Indiana over a year ago to manage voter outreach during the 2018 election cycle as a temporary field director. Impressed with his organizing and field plan work, he was brought on as a full-time staff member shortly after the elections.
Williams has been working in field management and campaigns for nearly 10 years. He started as a Field Manager on Kevin Powell’s 2008 Congressional run and has since campaigned at every level (Federal, State, and Municipal) working a wide range of issues from Climate Change to LGBTQ rights. But really, he got his start from his now hero, a small-town Florida lawyer named Grady Irvin.
“He was one of the first people in my life to give me an opportunity by working in his office at 13 and has since become a mentor to me and major source of inspiration,” Williams said.
Joel said he feels very passionate about his work at Stand Indiana and believes working to support the passage of the recent referendum has had and will continue to have a BIG impact in the lives of IPS parents and kids.
“Since I’ve been at Stand I’ve witnessed the strength parent organizing has in the school system,” Williams said, “I work at Stand because as a parent, I want all kids to have the same educational opportunities my son has.”
Outside of work, Joel is a self-proclaimed movie and tv “nerd.” He loves Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings.
“I also enjoy political dramas such as Scandal, West Wing, House of Cards, and Veep. 24 is the greatest show ever made,” he said.
