Stand for Children Indiana staff and parents are incredibly grateful to Dr. Ferebee for his leadership these past five years.
With the progress IPS has made, it’s no wonder why Washington, D.C.’s mayor would enthusiastically select Dr. Ferebee as D.C. Public Schools Chancellor. From rooting out rampant financial mismanagement to achieving dramatic increases in graduation rates to implementing parent-supported efforts to turn around schools in our most challenged neighborhoods, Dr. Ferebee has done so much to give our most vulnerable children new hope and opportunity.
Since becoming superintendent, graduation rates have dramatically increased, and IPS has been put on more solid financial ground through the recent passing of the IPS referendum.
The next leader in IPS will certainly have big shoes to fill. Dr. Ferebee and his team have brought progress and opportunity to neighborhoods that, in the past, were overlooked by district leaders. All children – not just some living in more affluent zip codes – deserve a school in their neighborhood with a great principal, excellent teachers and an effective curriculum. Dr. Ferebee worked hard toward this vision of equal educational opportunity, and our parents are hoping IPS’ next leader will do the same.
